Has our love affair with the overseas festival ended?

UK festivals are overwhelmingly more popular than overseas festivals, according to a new survey by Skiddle.

Nearly half (50%) of people say they prefer UK festivals, compared to just 8% who say they prefer to get their festival fix abroad. The survey puts to bed the rumour that overseas festivals such as Tomorrowland in Belgium and Outlook in Croatia are the more popular choice with UK festivalgoers.

Skiddle Co-Founder and Director Ben Sebborn, commented:

“Whilst many festivalgoers choose to travel abroad to see what the rest of the world has to offer, it’s encouraging to see such loyalty towards the Great British Festival. The weather can’t be guaranteed, but the unique atmosphere can. There will always be a market for overseas festivals, but for now, our muddy fields, wellington boots and warm cans of cider appear to be winning the race.”

The UK festival scene is continuing to increase in popularity year upon year. In 2017, Skiddle have seen a 21% increase in ticket sales. The survey also revealed that Glastonbury was voted the UK’s favourite larger festival. Kendal Calling in the Lake District, was voted the UK’s favourite small festival.
