How to keep an event busy after it’s snowed

There’s been a scattering of snow all around the country and you need to seriously consider how your event is going to fair if we get a good dollop of snow before your event.

The first thing to say is you need to be able to communicate to as many of your regular events goers as possible, you can do this via Facebook, by Twitter and by email.

Keep communicating with your event goers after it’s snowed

Whatever happens, make sure you communicate with your event goers every minute you get an update – that means speaking to the venue about the conditions and what they’ve done to mitigate the problems as well as keeping an eye on the weather forecasts.

There are loads of ways to communicate the facts with your event goers and they will thank you for it in the long run, plus you don’t want loads of people turning up if you’ve decided to cancel the event that night (which could happen if it gets bad enough).

Should you cancel your event because of the snow?

It’s also good to gauge the thoughts of your potential attendees in regards to venturing out in the snow. If you’ve going to have a small crowd that isn’t going to cover the costs it might be best to let people know and cancel the event on that particular occasion – letting them all know in advance will be the key to getting them back again in the future.

Hopefully you won’t have to cancel the event. It there’s snow and ice on the ground you need to get out there and clear in, put rock salt down to prevent people slipping, crucially you can use this in your communications with your event goers, let them know what you’re doing to make it safe for them, show them photos of the work being carried out. You might have to do this several time if it’s snowing hard – but they will thank you for it and reward your efforts with their loyalty.

You might also want to provide contact details of taxi companies that can take them directly to the venue – that way they don’t have to worry about slipping and sliding around the place, which could be very off putting.

As with most of these things, communication has to be the key.
