The Night Time Economy and Save Our Scene are coming together on 18th November for the Culture Calling Campaign.
They’re asking the government to cut VAT across the board for the Hospitality and Cultural sectors, allowing them the financial headroom to survive.
It comes off the back of a challenging time for the industry, which has seen the closure of 5,736 hospitality venues over the past 12 months, 31% of nightclubs closing since lockdown, the loss of 35 independent late-night venues every week, the loss of two pubs a day in 2023 and the closure of 118 festivals since 2019.
In addition, operating costs have risen to 40% above pre-pandemic levels, with eventgoers feeling the financial pressures. This has resulted in lower attendance and a 13% contraction in independent businesses.
The Culture Calling Campaign will carry out media activations, with a government lobbying campaign targeting MPs within the House of Commons. It will culminate with an ‘Email Your MP Push’ leading up to the Autumn Budget on the 22nd November.
