How to use display ads online to promote an event

If you are looking to promote an event online there are a number of options open to you, one of which is display advertising. Display advertising is a form of advertising that isn’t restricted to text only ads (the opposite of display advertising is classified advertising).

Display ads allow the advertiser to get across a message in a simple and immediate manner, generally relying on the use of images to create an understanding of the core message which is then reinforced by a limited amount of text.

The great thing about online display advertising is there are less people doing it than the people doing classified advertising (such as Google Adwords’ search network) and generally you can speak to website owners to negotiate the rates for advertising.

The only thing you’ve got to consider if display ads need creating – which generally means you need to have a designer on hand to help you out.

How are display ads costed?

There are a number of ways in which display ad costs are worked out and it really depends on the model that’s being implemented, you could be lookikng at a cost per click model – this is how Google Adwords display network works for example, alternatively cost per acquisition could be used, this is tended to be used when the product/service being advertised is highly relevant tot he content of the page and generally returns higher returns for the website being advertised on, however normally most websites will use a cost per mill (CPM) model in which the cost is worked out per 1000 impressions.
