With your help, we’re going to raise £100k for Macmillan Cancer Support.

There’s a terrifying fact that 1 in 2 people will get Cancer. That’s 50%. Or half. People you know, people you love or people you care about. You’ve more chance of getting cancer than winning on a national lottery scratch card. Simply terrifying.

Earlier this year our whole world came crashing down. We found out in January that Chris Glaba, our friend and colleague was ill, and it quickly escalated to Cancer. Cameras, Scans and Consultants later we suddenly had a timeline. “The average life expectancy is about 18 months”.

Since then we’ve had nothing but hope. Hope that we can beat this terrible disease. Hope that Chris get’s to be normal again. Nobody deserves this! It’s a rollercoaster of joy and sadness as things were looking up, only for them to be taken away again. Chemo. Scans. Fits. Clear Scans. More Chemo. Then it happened. The news.

Last week, after another visit to Christies in Manchester the diagnosis was poor, and unless we have a bloody miracle Chris has approximately 3 months to live.

Naturally this has affected us all in different ways, emotions are high to say the least. However the one constant that has existed though, and does for thousands of other Cancer Patients is the love and support from Macmillan Cancer Support.

“At Macmillan, we know how a cancer diagnosis can affect everything. So we’re here to support you and help you take back some control in your life. From help with money worries and advice about work, to someone who’ll listen if you just want to talk, we’re here.” macmillan.org.uk

The support that Chris has received from Macmillan is outstanding. Whether that be help and knowledge from his own nurse (or sometime a gentle telling off when required!) alongside support with financial issues, health issues or matters of the mind, they have been by his side every step of the way. But it doesn’t stop there. Macmillan have offered a extended arm of support to family, friends, colleagues. Me.

Macmillan really are the unsung superhero’s of this terrible disease.

Therefore we at Skiddle want to do what we can to repay the favour. Not just for Chris, but to every single one of you that have had or may need the support of Macmillan Cancer Support. We’ve set ourself the challenge of raising £100,000 for Macmillan and are already on the way to doing so.

Over the coming weeks we will be announcing various fundraising challenges that our team and associates will be taking part in. There’s also a couple of special events in the pipeline, and we’re also asking for a £1 donation at the checkout when our customers purchase a ticket. To date, Skiddle and our customers have donated over £45,000 to Macmillan – which is nearly enough to pay for a Macmillan Nurse for a year. So thank you. Thank you so much. But this is just the beginning.
